I rode my stationary bike for 20 minutes.

Goal 3: Develop a meditation practice

I meditated for 10 minutes.

Goal 4: Develop a daily writing habit

Cleaning out My Paper Trays

For over a month I’ve been violating several rules of Getting Things Done: I hadn’t been managing my inbox, I had been working out of it instead of cleaning it out, and I hadn’t filed anything in a while.

My Inbox, Work In Progress, Read, Reference, Scan, and File trays as of noon today.

I decided to take advantage of a free afternoon and clean things up. It took about 7 hours, but the results were worth the time.

As of 7 PM. Much better!

Since I had been working out of my inbox most of the remaining items weren’t actionable. I spent most of my time scanning, throwing things away, and doing digital and physical filing.

Now to keep it under control in the future.

Pick Four Goals Phase 2

My current 12 week Pick Four Goals cycle ends on Saturday, February 23. I’ve been thinking about four new goals for my next phase, which starts on Sunday, February 24. So far I’ve come up with two.

  1. Complete the 12 week program outlined in Julia Cameron’s book The Artist’s Way.
  2. Reduce my debt. I still need to quantify this.

I’m considering the last two, and plan to spend more time on them in the next few weeks. Stay tuned.

Afternoon Lulls

I have a hard time keeping focused in the afternoon. I’m usually very productive in the morning, but right after lunch I crash. I’m trying to figure out how to manage it, and I’ve come up with a few things.

First, I acknowledge that I need some down time. After lunch I tend to take it easy for 30 minutes or so. Sometimes I take a nap.

Second, I try to do something active that doesn’t take a lot of brainpower. Today I cleaned out a box and organized some digital clutter.

Third, I try to pay attention to when my energy starts to pick up again. If I’m not careful I can miss that and lose some productive time.
