Goals Progress: Week 3 in Review

Highlights from last week

I’ve established a habit of blogging every day. I’m working on The Artist’s Way every day. I’m keeping up with my finances and debt reduction. I’m decluttering. I didn’t work on my side business idea at all.

What got in the way / What didn’t work?

The basic personal well-being habits (eat healthy, exercise, and meditate) aren’t getting done.

What I learned from what didn’t work

I been focused on cleaning and decluttering lately, neglecting other things I said was going to work on. I felt some guilt about this until a couple of things happened.

First, I remembered one of the fundamental lessons of the Getting Things Done system that I follow. It teaches that sometimes you need to focus on the single actions facing you before you can tackle the larger projects. It’s a bottoms up approach.

Second, when I read Week 4 of The Artist’s Way I found the following:

One of the clearest signals that something healthy is afoot is the impulse to weed out, sort through, and discard old clothes, papers, and belongings.

I think this is where I am right now. I need to clean things up. Not at the expense of neglecting other parts of my life; I need to work on my other goals as well. But I’m going to try to cut myself some slack if some things don’t get done.
